OUR PAST ESCAPE GAMES!

DISCOVER THE GAMES THAT WENT TO SLEEP A LONG TIME AGO!

CURSED ACADEMY

Following Magic Academy, the sequel Cursed Academy centered around a suspicious headmistress and a curse. Thousands of years ago, an ancient prophecy proclaimed the magic academy would one day fall under a terrible curse. This dark spell would vanish students from their beds and strip them of their powers. Their magic would have been stolen by the curse-caster who would use it to spread terror through the world as soon as the next full moon would rise. With one hour to spare, exploring the headmistress’ office might be the only hope to find a way to save the children.

Going from 2 rooms to 4 rooms, the game included floating candles, secret passages, magic wands, talking hats and books, potions, mandrakes, portkeys and much more. The Academy escape games were inspired by a famous magical boy.

BANK ROBBERY

Part of A/Maze’s old Mafia Challenge 4-games storyline (with Steal The Car, Prison Break and Casino Robbery), Bank Robbery followed the storyline of the biggest criminal in town, Big Vanko. You finally found Big Vanko’s bank. You don’t know what’s inside the safe, but you’re sure it will help you beat him. It’s time to put an end to Vanko’s crimes.

Bank Robbery first started off as a James Bond game. Starting the game with a suitcase of gadgets, it features incredible puzzles and challenges such as avoiding lasers to get to the vault, 3D-printing your vault code, and fishing for a key. A robot could turn off the motion sensor for you and the cameras of the room were part of the puzzles!

SPACECRAFT HORIZON

The year is 2258. Humanity has been travelling the galaxy, discovering the universe. Your crew is enjoying a nice meal in the mess hall when you receive a distress call from Spacecraft Horizon. The message is distorted, and it does not make much sense. However, one thing is clear, you are the closest vessel and you must respond. When you find the ship, there are holes in its hull and it is floating dead in space. You enter the Horizon and everything is quiet. Your goal is to search the ship for survivors and download the security footage. Will you be able to find out what happened to the crew?

Spacecraft Horizon took place in a huge maze with moving walls and was the biggest escape game to date at A/Maze! The ever-evolving labyrinth would split the players into two sub-groups who had to explore the creepy world around them. Throughout the game, they were helped by the ship’s Artificial Intelligence who would guide them from door to door. Spoiler Alert: the A.I. was not innocent in regards to the death of the previous crew. Spacecraft Horizon opened in october 2018, but unfortunately closed during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

BUNKER

We are in 2037, at the edge of World War III. Tension is high around the globe, as powerful forces are tempting each other to launch the first strike. But behind this event, an even more nefarious project is ongoing. Project Phoenix has been put in place by an unknown group of leaders. Their plan? Send the world into war while they hide out in a bunker. Countries will be destroyed, lands will be ravaged, but when the ashes settle, they will rise up with even more power as before. You’ve managed to make it into their underground encampment, but as soon as you step inside, the doors close behind you. The only thing in the bunker is a big bright red button. What now?

The Bunker began as part of our A/Maze Halloween Week in 2018 at A/Maze Pointe-Claire. It included multiple videos detailing an advancing narrative track, innovative puzzles with cool technologies such as 3D Enhanced Reality and some older ones like morse code. When the players pressed the red button, they were warned that they had just activated the Project and that nukes would be launched to surrounding countries in one hour. As they ran around to escape, it was the entire world that rested on their shoulders! The Bunker closed down during the COVID-19 pandemic, only to be replaced with an updated version named Bunker 2.0!

MEDIEVAL DUNGEON

This did not go according to plan. Everything seemed to be fine! Your time travelling machine worked! Your team and you were able to travel to 13th century London and observe their way of life. Unfortunately, your democratic values and your strange notion of modern physics have made you a bit of a threat to higher authorities. You were approached by two knights while discussing Newton’s third law with a couple of villagers. Apparently, the King wants to see you. Fat, short and ugly, King John does not look like royalty. He demands to know what happens in the future and is insulted when you tell him he is dubbed “the worst king of England” and that he dies from over-eating. No wonder you are now stuck in a dungeon.

MEDIAVAL DUNGEON was a game at A/Maze Pointe-Claire. It was one of the older games with the idea to travel to a different time. Everything was there to make you feel like a prisoner of the medieval period. Special attention was dedicated to props and tools for puzzles. How would you escape from a cell with a rope and a cup? You could have spent the whole game in real chainmail or lock your friends in old and heavy handcuffs. The dungeon was close in 2019 and will be reborn as a new game at the end of 2020.

CASINO ROBBERY

You are on the run from the law for a crime you have not committed. To finish it once and for all, you’ll prove who the real criminal is. He’s been bullying this city for far too long. You’ve already escaped from him, but today, you’re stopping the Big Vanko. He has been running the Casino for years, it’s where he does all his business. He’s got a vault hidden in his office with all his money in cash and a book of all his associates and anyone he has ever worked with. Get this information to the police and you’ll be able to end his reign once and for all. Find a way into his office, crack the safe and get out before someone else arrives to stop you.

Casino robbery was a game at A/Maze Griffintown. It opened in early 2016 and had the reputation for the hardest room we had. Casino Robbery was the final game for the Mafia Challenge! Which is a series of escape rooms that follow the same story. In other words, it was The Final Mission for a multi-step heist. Plus with the success rate of 10%, you definitely needed the experience gained from previous games. Sometimes you need to open a part of the wall, and other times to open the fortune cookie that was always there.

SERIAL KILLER

Over the last couple of months there have been strange disappearances occurring in the Griffintown area. People will vanish and their lifeless bodies will appear a few weeks later with one odd difference. They all have the same tattoo of a griffin on their back. The police have issued a warning advising the public to be cautious when going out at night and to travel in pairs when possible. Someone out there is kidnapping people. The media has dubbed him: “The Griffin Killer”.

Serial Killer was a game at A/Maze Griffintown. It opened in early 2016 and was our first horror escape room. New ideas were coming and coming, finally, we decided to make it part of something bigger! To access the game you were required to pass by a bar upstairs called “Playground”. If you had the right password a gamemaster would come and take you to the basement. A couple of seconds later, you find yourself in a dark basement, handcuffed to the wall, surrounded with creepy music and only one source of light!

THE MAGIC ACADEMY

7 years of hard work and it all comes down to this. Pass this final exam and you will officially become a graduated wizard. You’ve got your best quill and ink set at hand when you learn that things will not go exactly as you’d plan. Instead of a regular writing test, you and a few other students will have 45 minutes to prove yourselves in a series of tasks. Not only will these challenges test your magical skills, but you will also have to show that you can keep a cool mind in front of danger. There’s more to being a wizard than knowing how to flick your wand!

The Magic Academy was a game at A/Maze Pointe-Claire. It opened in early 2018 and instantly got a lot of attention, becoming the most played game of the year at A/Maze! The possibilities were endless for this game, and we soon realized we had a lot more we could add to it to make it even more magical! For that exact reason, in late 2019, the Magic Academy welcomed its last students before closing. It was closed for barely a month when the doors opened again for our new game: the Cursed Academy! A dark spell was placed on the school and, with a completely new design including a new distribution of the rooms, a new story involving a twisted headmistress and completely new magical puzzles, this new adventure rose from the ashes of the old one as its sequel!

THE ALIEN MAZE

The year is 2258. The Earth has become inhabitable. You and your team travel in search of an planet similar to Earth. You land on one of these planet’s surface and immediately realize that this one is no good for you. The lights in your ship shut off. The doors start to malfunction. And a strange blue gas is coming in from the vents. A few members of your crew breathe it in. Bad idea. The engineers starts coughing, spitting blood. Blue blood. Their eyes turn black, their teeth sharpen. Not wanting to be next, you and the rest of your team run away. The newly born Aliens have taken over. You move through the corridors, trying to get away from them, but the doors don’t always open when you want them to. Your ship has become an Alien Maze. What now?

The Alien Maze opened in 2017 as our first non-escape game adventure! This survival game had people chasing their friends around a giant maze in the dark. The coolest part? The walls would move! You could be going through the maze, turn around and find your environment had changed. The game had different modes where it would be a simple chase, a search for items, a puzzle solving mission and more. Unfortunately, the adventure, no matter how cool it was, was not well known enough and people preferred playing escape games than trying our survival option. For this reason, the Alien Maze was closed to general public in 2019, but it is still available for big groups in corporate events!

THE MUSEUM ROBBERY

Eleanor Tremblay had decided to travel the world for a full year. Right before coming back home, she stopped in Argentina to visit the forest of Patagonia. Something strange must have happened there, because when she came back, she became distant, cold, but also, extraordinary. The artist created many paintings and sculptures in her lifetime, but none are as valuable as the last one she ever made. Right before her untimely death, a hidden sculpture came to life. You suspect this sculpture to contain the Medallion, a powerful object that holds amazing powers. This object could be the answer to everything you have ever wanted to know. It is said to hold all the secrets of the universe. It’s up to you to collect the sculpture from her exhibition before the guards come back.

The Museum Robbery opened as one of the three games of A/Maze Pointe-Claire in 2016. The adventure had a secret passageway behind a painting, a room filled with lasers to avoid and sculptures under glass cases. It was, for a while, the hardest game at A/Maze with a success rate of around 9%! However, on December 31st 2017, the game came to an end as the A/Maze Pointe-Claire location had to move to a different part of the Fairview mall. Once we reopened, we had completely new games, and Eleanor Tremblay’s exposition became legend, the sculptures residing now in the game: the Bank Robbery!

THE PIRATE SHIP

You’re casually swimming through the St-Lawrence river on one of your weekly scuba diving expeditions with your pals when you come across an old battered ship: “The Queen Anne’s Revenge”. You remember childhood stories of Edward Thatch, the fearsome pirate with the great black beard. It is said that the captain sank with his ship long ago, and the ship is right in front of you here and now! What treasures could it hide? You decide to go explore it, but you must be quick or the whole foundation might break apart on your head!

The Pirate Ship was at A/Maze Pointe-Claire from 2016 to 2017, when we had to relocate and the game was forever gone. The adventure had you search through the room for different parts of Black Beard’s journal that detailed his expedition. Once you had them all, you could calculate their departure coordinates on a giant map and discover the code to open up the captain’s treasure!

THE CIRCUS

Guisseppe used to be the old ringmaster of the Circus until one cold Saturday morning. The Medallion was his family legacy but it was taken from him. As soon as he noticed it was missing, Guisseppe met with the fortune teller Demelza, hoping she could help him find the culprit. After a long conjuring session in communion with the metaphysical, it was revealed to Guisseppe that the robbery had been an inside job. Certain that the clowns had stolen it, he got into a huge fight with one of them and eventually killed him. It wasn’t until he was put in jail that he discovered that Demelza had the Medallion all along. You now enter the tent, ready to find the mystical artefact that caused this whole mess, and hoping to put an end to the curse it’s been causing for generations.

The Circus was opened at A/Maze Pointe-Claire in 2016 with the Museum Robbery and the Pirate Ship. The game had all sorts of different secrets like a fake stage, a door that lead to a brick wall and the Medallion hidden behind a mirror. The game was fun, up-beat, and very well liked. Unfortunately, when A/Maze had to move in 2017, the game had to go, but it will always be remembered by Game Masters and players alike.
