The Secret of the Lachine Canal

AN OUTDOOR ESCAPE GAME

THE STORY

Although John Redpath was a young and poor immigrant, he quickly became one of the leaders of the Industrial Revolution. Thanks to John, Montreal gave birth to many factories, plants, enterprises and, of course, the Lachine Canal. This artificial water course was the beginning of the industrial era in Montreal. The region’s economy flourished and it became a leader amongst North American cities.

In the course of his life, John Redpath accumulated vast amounts of wealth. Upon his death, it was rumoured that he hid his most valuable possessions to be given to a decent descendant, should they pass his test. Only a true expert of the city would be able to locate his treasure. But all hints and challenges were gone. No one even knew where to start.

Last year, during the renovation of the Turcot Interchange, workers recovered an old hidden chest containing a notebook. After a quick inspection, it was handed over to the Redpath family. Obviously, his descendants were the first to try and find the treasure. Soon, they realized they would need some help. That’s why they invited you in exchange for 50% of the estimated value. A copy of the notebook was given to your team as well as access to a specially created software named Brain Race. This program will help you communicate with the Redpath family during your hunt. So you are all set! Will you be the ones who, one and a half centuries later, will solve the mystery of the Lachine Canal and find Repath’s treasure?

HOW MUCH WILL I WALK?

The full game is 2.62km long. Coming back from the end point to the start point is around 1 extra km.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

A charged cellphone with access to internet through data and a water bottle to cool off!

HOW OLD CAN THE PLAYERS BE?

This is the perfect family activity. Usually, parents will be the ones to solve the puzzles and the kids are more likely to gather the educational information and spot hidden clues. Any age can play!

DOES THE GAME RESPECT ALL SOCIAL DISTANCING RULES?

Of course! However, the game does include some physical elements that should only be shared by participants of the same household. If you have members of 2 or more households in your team, we recommend asking for additional game elements before your game begins so you don’t have to share.
